Without God, democracy will not and cannot long endure. If we look closely at this world, where God seems so utterly forgotten, we shall find that it is he, who, after all, commands the most fidelity and the most love. To be free from evil thoughts is God's best gift. It is natural to believe in God when you're alone - quite alone, in the night, thinking about death.
