All war is a symptom of man's failure as a thinking animal. A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves. As government expands liberty contracts. Everything is changing. People are taking their comedians seriously and the politicians as a joke. Without God, democracy will not and cannot long endure. We must not look to government to solve our problems. Government is the problem. If no set of moral ideas were truer or better than any other, there would be no sense in preferring civilized morality to savage morality. If one could only teach the English how to talk, and the Irish how to listen, society here would be quite civilized. The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.
